Serves: 3-4 Servings
Ingredients
Chicken wings - 750 gms, both durmette & wingets
Gochujang paste - 4 tbsp
Flavorless oil - 2 tbsp
Garlic powder - 1 tsp
Onion powder - 1 tsp
Pepper - ΒΌ tsp
Salt to taste
Instructions
Wash and pat dry the chicken wings. Take them in a mixing bowl. Drizzle the oil of your choice over the chicken wings.
Now add all the dry ingredients - garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Using a spatula, give a good mix to the chicken wings to coat each wing evenly with seasonings and aromatics on all sides. Set them aside.
In another large bowl, take the Gochujang paste. Ensure the bowl is large enough to hold all the chicken wings.***
Give the Gochujang paste a good stir to ensure it is soft enough to coat the chicken wings.
Now drop the seasoned chicken wings into the bowl with Gochujang and using a spatula give them a good mix to evenly coat all sides of each wing with the Korean chilli paste.
Once you are happy with the chicken mixing, let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. When you are ready to cook them, preheat your air fryer at 190 C / 375 F and set the timer to 20 minutes.
Spray the bottom of the basket with oil to prevent the Gochujang chicken wings from sticking.
Transfer the marinated chicken wings one by one to the air fryer basket arranging them in a single layer. Make sure you do not pile up the chicken wings; then they will not cook evenly.
Air fry the Gochujang chicken wings until halfway through cooking time. Then take the basket out and flip over each chicken wing.
Brush any leftover Gochujang marinade over the wings. Return the basket to the air fryer and continue cooking for the remaining time.
Once the air frying completes, take the basket out and check the doneness of the chicken.**
Your air fryer Gochujang chicken wings should be done by now and ready to serve! If you feel otherwise, air fry them for 5 more minutes and they should be good to go.
Transfer them to a serving bowl and enjoy them with a Greek yogurt dip on the side!
Notes
***Pro tip: Gochujang chilli paste tends to be thick and when refrigerated it becomes stiff & unspreadable. So I microwaved it for 1 to 2 minutes to soften it with a tiny drizzle of oil to make it spreadable.
**Pro tip: Please note that there will be significant charring of the chicken as Gochujang paste has a good amount of sugar added into it and sugar gets charred when exposed to high heat for long.
