What is air fryer omelette and why is it so viral now?
I will be honest with you! I didn’t suddenly come up with the idea of this air fryer omelette recipe on my own which may already be very obvious to you as this is everywhere on the internet!
A quick search on trending air fryer recipes got me hooked on this one and then I developed my own version of air fryer omelette after scanning through a dozen.
This air fryer version of omelette is significantly different from your regular frying pan version made on the stovetop. The major difference is in their texture.
Air fryer omelette comes out super fluffy because we use 6 to 7 eggs which make multiple servings at one go (an absolute win-win!) and it becomes thick yet succulent inside thanks to the convection cooking technique of air fryers.
But I think what made this omelette so viral is the versatility of this recipe! You can make your own custom-made omelette with your own choice of veggies making it look extremely pretty!
I am already thinking of other variations of this that I am going to make soon!
Ingredients for air fryer omelette
Eggs: Since it is an omelette recipe, it goes without saying that egg is the primary ingredient here. To make the best tasting air fryer omelette, use as fresh eggs as you can possibly source.
Also the more you beat the eggs, the more air will get incorporated into the omelette mixture and it will produce a fluffy and swelled up omelette which will taste simply mind-blowing!
This recipe makes an air fryer omelette which is good to serve 4 adult portions for breakfast. You can use a lesser number of eggs but then it won’t fluff up this much.
You can also make this big air fryer omelette and store half of it in the refrigerator for the next day. That way, your breakfast will be ready on a busy weekday morning!
Onion: To give a subtle sweetness & to add tenderness to the air fryer omelette, I added a small onion which I had finely chopped as I didn’t want any big chunk of onion when I bite into my soft omelette.
Capsicum/bell pepper: To give body to the air fryer omelette, I added capsicums (aka bell peppers) of assorted colors to give it an interesting look.
Again I had chopped the peppers finely to avoid biting into chunky veggies in my succulent omelette. Adding veggies also increases the fiber content of your meal and it’s a sneaky way to up your fiber consumption.
You can add other veggies too in your air fryer omelette, for example finely chopped spinach, grated carrot, grated zucchini or finely chopped spring onion.
Milk: I always add a splash of milk in my omelettes irrespective of how I make it – on the stovetop or in the air fryer.
Milk adds a creamy softness to the omelettes and also kills the raw smell of the egg.
Cheese: Though cheese is an optional ingredient, omelette with cheese is a match made in heaven!
So you can use a good quality melting cheese to have the cheesy air fryer omelette to start your day with!
I used cheddar cheese as we prefer it over mozzarella but you can pick whichever you like; my only suggestion would be to avoid processed cheese as they not only lack flavor but also do not have the goodness of natural cheese like cheddar.
Salt & pepper: Season your air fryer omelette nicely with salt and pepper to bring out the flavors of all the ingredients.
Add salt keeping in mind the veggies as they would also absorb the seasoning.
How to make the air fryer omelette?
Step 1: Start preheating your air fryer at 180 C / 350 F and set the timer to 30 minutes. While the air fryer is preheating, prepare the air fryer omelette mixture.
Step 2: Let’s prepare the veggies – finely chop the onion and chop the bell peppers into tiny pieces so that they mingle with the omelette nicely instead of remaining chunky.
Step 3: In a large bowl, break the eggs one by one. Then add the milk to the eggs and using a wire whisk, give a good churn.
Step 4: Now add the chopped onion, chopped bell peppers and season with salt & pepper to taste. Give a nice whisk using the same wire whisk.
Step 5: Take a silicone mould which is easily available online these days. Grease the mould with oil so that the omelette comes out easily without sticking.
Step 6: Once the air fryer is preheated, take the fryer basket out and place the empty silicone mould inside the basket.
Step 7: Then pour the prepared omelette mixture inside the silicone mould carefully. Finally sprinkle the grated cheese on top of the egg mixture.
Step 8: Now return the air fryer basket to the fryer and start air frying the omelette. It would take about 30 minutes for the omelette to completely set.
Pro tip: The top of the omelette may turn dark brown due to the cheese during the cooking; to prevent it from too much browning, you can cover the top of the omelette with an aluminum foil after 15 minutes.
Step 9: After about 30 minutes, the omelette should be completely set; if not, continue cooking for 4 to 5 minutes more.
Step 10: Then take the silicone mould out of the air fryer and let it cool for some time.
Step 11: Once it is cool enough to handle, unmould it from the silicone base, transfer to a platter, cut into wedges and serve warm! Enjoy!
