But yes, that will be in a parallel universe where I wouldn’t worry about consuming excess calories that come free of cost with the delicious taste of a generous serving of Tiramisu!
With all that love and affection towards Tiramisu, I also jumped into the bandwagon of a spin-off of Tiramisu made with the cult favorite of all fitness enthusiasts these days!
Chia seeds! So here I present my version of the viral Tiramisu chia pudding!
What is Tiramisu chia pudding?
If you love to watch cooking/recipe videos, I am sure you have come across this viral recipe in your feed many times already!
Just in case this is something new to you and I have the privilege to introduce you to this current social trend, then let me decode it for ya!
First, let’s see what Tiramisu is and then we can figure out its connection with the Tiramisu chia pudding!
A classic Tiramisu has multiple layers of classic lady finger biscotti soaked in freshly brewed coffee with alternating thick layers of whipped up mascarpone cheese in between two layers of lady fingers.
The final layer of mascarpone is dusted with a generous amount of cocoa powder. Then the assembled Tiramisu is chilled in the refrigerator overnight to set things up.
This also allows the flavors of coffee and cocoa to mingle with each other resulting into a mind-blowing no-bake dessert making you fall in love with it instantly!
From the description of it, Tiramisu sounds like an incredibly tasty dessert with all good things in it; then what the heck is this Tiramisu chia pudding?
After going through uncountable reels & shorts of this viral trend, I got a hang of it!
So the creator of this trend got this genius idea to infuse a regular chia pudding with the sensational flavor of Tiramisu making the creamy chia pudding more attractive for all the fitness enthusiasts!
Chia pudding has become immensely popular world wide thanks to the health benefits that these tiny seeds bring to the table.
Also thanks to the absorbing power of these seeds, they become creamy & delicious once soaked in any liquid while also soaking up the flavors of the liquid.
And that’s how this viral Tiramisu chia pudding came into existence where the chia seeds are soaked in a cup of freshly brewed coffee and then topped with a creamy layer of Greek yogurt.
Finally a generous dusting of cocoa powder rounds things up just like its classic version and makes this crazy spin-off of a classic Tiramisu!
Essentially the lady fingers are replaced by chia seeds and mascarpone is substituted with Greek yogurt. To sweeten your Tiramisu chia pudding, you can use either honey or maple syrup.
To be honest, before making this, I wasn’t too sure if we would like this combined flavor of coffee with yogurt as this combination was very new to me.
But thankfully I took the chance and did not regret it at all! You will like it even more than others if you’re a coffee lover because the aroma of coffee hits differently in the coffee infused chia pudding layer! Try it!
Ingredients for Tiramisu chia pudding
Chia seeds: This is the heart of this viral recipe and that goes without saying! All you have to ensure is that the quality of chia seeds you are using is high without any fillers or adulteration.
I have been using this brand for more than 2 years now and can vouch for their quality.
Chia seeds have gained unbelievable popularity of late and for all good reasons! I consume these miracle seeds almost daily, primarily in my breakfast.
These tiny seeds not only make us feel fuller because they swell up on absorbing liquid hence taking more space in our stomach giving us a sense of filled belly, but also give us generous shots of Omega 4 fatty acids!
It would take an entire blog to talk about the benefits of chia seeds, so I am saving it for a future post!
Greek yogurt: This creamy yogurt is a must to use to get that perfect moussy texture in your chia pudding. Regular yogurt is very high in water content which will make your pudding watery.
There are many brands these days which make good quality Greek yogurt and you can easily get your hands on them in your nearest supermarket.
Honey: This was my choice of sweetener for my Tiramisu chia pudding. You would need the sweetener in both the chia layer and yogurt layer. You may also use maple syrup.
However, I would suggest not to use refined sugar as then the whole point of making a healthy spin-off of Tiramisu would go for a toss!
Also, please set the right expectation in your mind that this replicated Tiramisu chia pudding will never be as sweet as its original version.
This is true for any low-calorie recreation of a classic high calorie version as otherwise there would be no point in recreating such spin-offs!
Instant coffee: Coffee is the key flavor of Tiramisu and that’s exactly what we will be imparting into our Tiramisu chia pudding!
The invigorating flavor of a freshly brewed coffee instantly boosts your mood which is why this coffee flavored chia pudding became so viral in no time!
I used our regular instant coffee powder to make a cup of black coffee. You can use the coffee which you usually drink.
Cocoa powder: The signature of a classic Tiramisu is the generous dusting of cocoa powder on top of this chilled no-bake dessert.
To adapt the same classic look, our Tiramisu chia pudding is also served with a good dusting of cocoa powder, preferably unsweetened.
When you scoop out a spoon of Tiramisu chia pudding, the mingled flavor of creamy coffee flavored chia, sweetened yogurt and earthy cocoa powder will create an opera of flavors inside your mouth and you won’t be able to stop yourself from reaching out for more!
How to make Tiramisu chia pudding?
Step 1: First we will make the chia pudding layer. To start, take the instant coffee powder in a cup and pour boiling water into it.
Step 2: Give a good stir making sure the coffee is completely dissolved into the water. Then let it cool down completely.
Pro tip: It is critical to wait until the coffee is completely cooled down, else your chia seeds will clump when they come in contact with hot liquid.
Step 3: Now take the chia seeds in a large mixing bowl. Pour the cold coffee over the chia seeds.
Step 4: Also add the Greek yogurt and honey. Now using a wire whisk, start mixing everything until you end up with an evenly combined mixture of chia seeds, yogurt, coffee and honey.
Step 5: Your chia pudding layer is ready. Pour the chia pudding mixture into 2 serving glasses, dividing equally but leaving an inch gap on top of each glass for the additional layers. Smoothen the top with the back of a spoon.
Step 6: Chill the chia pudding in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours or even overnight. It will firm up and convert to a creamy texture thanks to the super-absorbent power of chia seeds.
Step 7: After about 5 hours or next day, we will top the chia pudding with a yogurt layer to replicate the Tiramisu vibe!
Step 8: For that, take half a cup of Greek yogurt in a mixing bowl and pour the ¼ cup of honey over it.
Step 9: Using a wire whisk, give a good mix to evenly combine the two ingredients ensuring there is no lump left behind.
Step 10: Take out the set chia pudding from the refrigerator. Top each glass of the Tiramisu chia pudding with about 3-4 tablespoons of the sweetened Greek yogurt mixture.
Step 11: Smoothen the top with the back of a spoon. Then return them back to the refrigerator to set for a couple of hours before serving.
Step 12: When you are ready to serve, top your Tiramisu chia pudding with a generous dusting of cocoa powder using a fine strainer and serve immediately! Enjoy!
