While scrolling through my social media feed one fine day, I simply got stuck to these air fryer sliced potatoes as they stared at me with their vibrant golden hue!
I instantly rushed to my kitchen, selected equal sized potatoes from the basket, washed, peeled and sliced them up! Then I left them in the refrigerator while I whipped up the spice mix!
Although I got inspired from this recipe of air fryer sliced potatoes, I took the liberty to completely customize the spice blend according to my liking.
And to be honest that’s the best part of this recipe! You can make it your own very easily!
What are air fryer sliced potatoes?
Making crispy wedges of potatoes in air fryer has become very common and I am sure you have already made them ample times if you own an air fryer.
I have made the air fryer potato wedges long back and have repeated it many times varying the spice mixes.
So it was time to switch things up a bit and that’s exactly where these air fryer sliced potatoes make their show-stopping appearance!
You slice your choice of potatoes, smear them in oil and your favorite spices and then just shove them into the air fryer!
What can be simpler than this!
Once done, you are rewarded with a plate of bright golden crispy potatoes fresh from your air fryer for all your hard work!
Because here the potatoes are sliced and not wedged, it adds a tad bit more attraction making it a tad bit more irresistible!
Ingredients for air fryer sliced potatoes
Potatoes: The star of the show! I used our regular potatoes here while just ensuring that the potatoes are nearly the same size.
This will give you potato slices of the same circumference and hence all your air fryer sliced potatoes will cook evenly.
I did peel my potatoes; but you can feel free to keep the peel on. Rub the skins thoroughly to remove all dirt in that case.
To make perfect air fryer sliced potatoes with crispy edges and soft center every time, try your best to cut each slice of equal thickness. Use a nice sharp knife for this precision.
Once you flawlessly prepare your potato slices there is nothing that can stop you from devouring a stunning platter of golden air fryer sliced potatoes!
Garlic powder: Aromatics make everything taste a hundred times better and these crispy potatoes are also no exception!
A generous amount of garlic & onion powder makes these air fried potatoes so freakingly unputdownable! Literally!
When you start tasting these air fryer sliced potatoes, your hand will automatically reach out for another! And then another! And the loop goes on!

Italian seasoning: My all-rounder spice blend is undisputedly Italian seasoning! I add this to everything and it imparts its magic every time!
I don’t even know how many bottles of Italian seasoning I have finished so far given that they come in a tiny jar of 35 grams!
Brands! Please bring bulk packets of Italian seasoning for crazy cooking enthusiasts like us!
Paprika / Red Chilli powder: If you are a regular follower of my blog, you would already know by now that I and my family cannot fathom recipes without paprika or our good old Indian red chilli powder!
Same goes with my air fryer sliced potatoes! The dash of vibrant chilli powder not only adds a subtle kick but also that gorgeous red color which makes these delicious potatoes even more tempting!
Extra virgin olive oil: For the crispiness around the edges of your air fryer sliced potatoes, you will need to toss the potato slices in a few tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.
The flavor of olive oil infuses the somewhat bland potatoes beautifully while also complementing the flavors of aromatic, spices and herbs!
Seasoning: Potatoes are a seasoning-hungry vegetable! To bring the best addictive taste of potatoes, you would need to generously season the potatoes with salt.
For about 500 grams of potatoes, you will need about 1 teaspoon of salt approximately which you can then adjust based on your personal preference.
Also add a dash of black pepper powder for that much needed kick to your mildly spiced air fryer sliced potatoes!
How to make air fryer sliced potatoes?
Step 1: Wash your potatoes nicely and peel them. Now using a sharp knife, slice the potatoes into thick slices of about 1 cm thickness. Try to keep all slices of equal thickness.
Step 2: Wash the potato slices again in running water. Drain the water out and transfer them to a colander.
Step 3: Place the colander over a plate and chill the potato slices in the refrigerator for an hour or so.
Pro tip: While the excess water will drain out through the colander, refrigeration will also absorb any excess moisture from the surface of the potato slices. This ensures your air fryer sliced potatoes turn out crispy.
Step 4: While the potatoes are chilling, prepare the spice blend by mixing all the remaining ingredients together except olive oil in a small mixing bowl – garlic & onion powder, Italian seasoning, paprika / red chilli powder and salt & pepper to taste.
Step 5: Give them a good whisk to mix everything evenly. Set it aside until needed.
Step 6: Once the potato slices are dry enough, take them out and transfer to a large mixing bowl.
Step 7: Drizzle the olive oil over the potato slices and using a spatula give a good stir so that each slice is evenly coated with oil.
Step 8: Now sprinkle half of the prepared spice blend over the oiled potato slices. To distribute the spices, you can either toss the bowl or stir the potatoes using the same spatula.
Step 9: Once the first installment of spices are mixed in, sprinkle the remaining mix of spices and repeat the process of mixing it in with the potatoes.
Pro tip: Take time to coat the potato slices with spices so that you neither end up with clots of spices at some places nor some potato slices remain unspiced.
Step 10: When you are ready to air fry your potatoes, start preheating your fryer at 200 C / 390 F and set the timer to 18 minutes.
Step 11: Spray oil at the bottom of the air fryer basket to avoid any sticking. After it is preheated, arrange the potato slices in a single layer inside the basket leaving a small gap between any two.
Step 12: You will have to air fry your potatoes in batches so that everything turns out crispy and flawless!
Pro tip: Do not, by any means, pile up the potato slices over one another; then you will be left with unevenly fried soggy potato slices and not these gorgeous ones that you see in the pictures!
Step 13: Start air frying them and flip them over gently using a tong while halfway through the cooking time or when your device prompts you to turn food.
Pro tip: You may spray a little more oil over your sliced potatoes before and after flipping them over.
Step 14: Continue air frying for the remaining duration. Check the doneness of your air fryer sliced potatoes by tasting one (just one!).
Step 15: If you feel it needs more time in the air fryer, just return them back for a couple of more minutes at the same temperature.
Step 16: Once you are happy with your air fryer sliced potatoes, take them out on a platter and serve warm with a savory yogurt dip! Enjoy!
